National Hiring Trends

For 18 years, MRI has been tracking hiring trends in the U.S through our Semi-Annual National Hiring Survey. MRI polls executives with responsibility for hiring to ask them one question: Over the next six months, do you intend to increase, decrease or maintain current staff sizes?

Two variable questions that change with each new survey are also posed to hiring executives. For the first half of 1999, we asked respondents if they expected the number of telecommuting employees to grow, remain the same, or shrink.

The third question eluded to a recent trend toward using sign-on bonuses as a recruiting tactic. We asked: If your company uses sign-on bonuses to attract candidates do you predict next year the practice will increase, remain the same or decrease.
